St. Cecilia (Stanwood) 100th Anniversary

On September 21, 2008, the Carmelite parish of St. Cecilia in Stanwood, Washington celebrated the 100th anniversary of foundation. Archbishop Alexander Brunett, Archbishop of Seattle, was present for the celebration.

Fr. Laurence Poncini, O.C.D. is the present Carmelite pastor of St. Cecilia.

Although the Discalced Carmelite Nuns of Shoreline, Washington arrived in the archdiocese of Seattle in 1908, the Discalced Carmelite Friars of the California-Arizona Province did not arrive there until 1986. In 1989, we asssumed care of St. Cecilia Parish.

Family Vocation Day

On May 31, 2008, our parish, St. Therese, in Alhambra, California hosted a Family Vocation Day with the Fathers of Mercy.

Solemn Profession of Bro. James of the Holy Wounds

On Saturday, May 24, 2008, Bro. James Zakowicz of the Holy Wounds, O.C.D. professed Solemn and Perpetual Vows at St. Therese Church. The Profession liturgy also celebrated the 20th anniversary of the Parish Perpetual Adoration Chapel.

Novitiate Provincial Tour

It has been a custom in our community for the Novice Master to take the Novices on a "tour" of our Province. Last month, Fr. Donald and the Novices visited our houses in Mt. Angel, Oregon and Stanwood, Washington. From November 6 through November 14 they ventured south and visited Redlands & Alhambra (California) and our two parishes in Tucson, Arizona. They also visited our Carmelite Sisters of the Most Sacred Heart in Alhambra, as well as our Carmelite Nuns, in Alhambra (pictured) and San Diego.

Tridentine Mass at St. Therese Church

On September 16, 2007, our parishoners at St. Therese Church in Alhambra, California, had the opportunity to attend the Tridentine Mass. Approximately 400 people attended. This traditional Mass will be celebrated at St. Therese Church every 3rd, 4th & 5th Sundays of each month. St. Therese Church was founded by the Anglo-Irish Province of Discalced Carmelite Friars in 1924 and became the first foundation of the California-Arizona Province.
